Individual Retirement Accounts

NCPD Federal Credit Union offers Traditional, Roth, and Coverdell Education individual retirement accounts.

  • Traditional IRAs are tax-deferred accounts that allow you to invest pre-tax income.
  • Roth IRAs let you invest after-tax income.
  • Coverdell Education IRAs offer a way to save for your child’s education expenses. Contributions are non-deductible. Distributions and withdrawals may be penalty- and/or tax-free.

All IRAs are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration up to $250,000.

Learn More

Contributions can be made to your IRA in person, through Payroll Deduction, or through transfers from another NCPD Federal Credit Union account.

Both the Traditional and Roth IRA options offered by NCPD Federal Credit Union provide competitive rates, a low opening deposit, and multiple contribution options. The key difference is in the timing of their tax advantages.

Eligible savers with earned income can use a Traditional IRA to make tax-deductible contributions, which can help you take advantage of tax savings right now, and your investments can grow tax-deferred. When you make withdrawals in retirement, these are taxed as ordinary income.

A Roth IRA is funded with after-tax contributions. This can allow you to enjoy tax-free growth and distributions in retirement. Roth IRAs are generally recommended if you expect to be in a higher tax bracket during retirement. Unlike those with a Traditional IRA, Roth IRA owners do not need to take required minimum distributions (RMDs) in retirement.

Note that income limits, annual contribution limits, and other rules apply. Check with a tax advisor to discuss your specific needs.

Absolutely. NCPD Federal Credit Union offers federally insured certificates with highly competitive rates for a variety of savings terms. Our certificates can bring more stability to your retirement portfolio by offering a predictable fixed rate of return for the entire term, while helping you avoid stock market volatility. No penalties apply for certificate withdrawals for required minimum distributions.

When you open your IRA, you’ll receive introductory paperwork that will note the dividend rate your account will earn. We also keep our rates updated online for quick and easy access.

See Rates

Both a 529 plan and a Coverdell Education IRA, also known as a Coverdell Education Savings Account, allow you to invest money toward your child’s education. Unlike a 529, a Coverdell ESA comes with income limits for those opening an account, can only be opened for beneficiaries under the age of 18, and has an annual contribution limit of $2,000 per year.

However, a Coverdell Education IRA may offer more investment flexibility compared to a state-sponsored 529 plan. Funds can also be used to cover more qualified education expenses, including tuition and fees, books and computers, transportation, tutoring, and uniforms.

Personal Loans

With a personal loan from NCPD Federal Credit Union, you can borrow up to $30,000 based on your creditworthiness, without collateral. A share secured loan, on the other hand, lets you use the funds you already have on deposit with NCPD FCU as collateral, so your creditworthiness doesn’t impact your eligibility. Because of this, share secured loans are ideal for those with no established credit or poor credit who want to improve their credit standing.

Share secured loans from NCPD Federal Credit Union have a rate of 1.50% APR over the last regular declared dividend rate on a regular Share Savings Account, excluding any bonus dividend rate. The interest rate will reset on the first day of each quarter if necessary. The latest rates are posted on our website for convenience.

Members commonly request them when they need to pay individuals or merchants who aren’t able to accept a personal check. Certified share drafts are generally reserved for official or government transactions and purchases. Certified share drafts cost a nominal fee of $5, while bank checks are fee-free for NCPD Federal Credit Union members.

First Mortgages

If you’ve secured a fixed-rate mortgage from NCPD FCU, your rate should be detailed on your paperwork, or you can check with your loan originator.

Before applying for a home loan, it’s generally wise to collect documentation that provides a full financial picture, including account statements, paper or electronic pay stubs, and tax documents. It might also be helpful to check your credit standing and work to improve it before applying.

download our PDF.

NCPD Federal Credit Union mortgages have no application fees, so your money stays with you – right where it belongs.

No! If the rate changes between the time you apply for financing and the issuance of the loan commitment letter, you will get the lower of the rates.

Absolutely. At NCPD Federal Credit Union, we strive to make member experiences as straightforward and stress-free as possible. You’ll receive personalized, one-on-one service and support from the same skilled NCPD FCU specialist throughout your entire mortgage experience. Dedicated to you, they’ll follow you from application to closing, answering your questions, setting your expectations, and walking you through the process.

Home Equity Loans & Lines of Credit

Your home equity is measured by subtracting the amount you still owe on your primary mortgage from your property’s appraised value. For example, if your property is appraised at $250,000 and you have a mortgage balance of $150,000, you have $100,000, or 40% of your home’s value, in equity.

For NCPD Federal Credit Union HELOCs or home equity loans, you must maintain at least 30% of your home equity after borrowing against it. In this example, you would be eligible to borrow $25,000 (70% of the value of the home, minus the current mortgage).

While both financing options are secured by the equity in your home, a home equity loan provides a lump sum with a fixed interest rate, whereas a HELOC offers a revolving line of credit with a variable interest rate.

With a conventional HELOC from NCPD Federal Credit Union, you benefit from a low introductory rate for the first two years before it adjusts to the prime rate. You pay down your principal more quickly, while still benefiting from a period of lower payments.

With our interest-only HELOC, you’re only required to make payments toward interest, not the principal balance, during the 10-year draw period. You can choose to make payments to lower your principal during the draw period, but you don’t have to, giving you more flexibility in your budget. When the repayment period begins, you’ll need to make payments on the interest and the principal.

The prime rate is published in the “Money Rates” section of the Wall Street Journal and may change each month. You can check NCPD Federal Credit Union’s current rates online.

Auto Loans

MSRP stands for “Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price.” It’s the price a vehicle’s manufacturer recommends for a vehicle – before any discounts or promotions – that serves as a guide for negotiations between dealerships and customers.

Not at all. NCPD Federal Credit Union can provide financing for a used vehicle you want to purchase from a private seller.

Did you get a new car loan from the dealership and aren’t happy with it? New vehicles purchased and financed by another lender may be refinanced as new with NCPD Federal Credit Union within 6 months of purchase.

The financing percentage refers to the portion of the vehicle’s price that NCPD FCU is able to finance. If you were to receive 100% financing, for instance, your loan would cover the total cost of the purchase. If you were to receive 90% financing, you would need to provide a 10% down payment.

Payment terms are the length of time that you’ll be repaying your vehicle loan. Longer terms tend
to have smaller monthly payments that may be more affordable upfront, but you might pay more
in interest over the life of the loan. Shorter payment terms might have higher monthly payments,
but you typically pay less total interest.
